I have done all of the above at one time or another. Southwest is a good airline. You will usually have the choice of a non-stop flight or short stopovers in El Paso and/or Phoenix. Check the SWA web site for more details.

*Most United Express flights will stop at one or more hub locations indicated by the asterisk. One flight/travel option that I have never tried is using an airline called Skywest. I read someone's web site that recommends flying Skywest to Inyokern, California. His web site says you can rent a car from Avis at Inyokern and then drive to Lone Pine in ONLY an hour!!! It looks like Skywest partners with United Express which allows you to fly out of Austin, but you will have to make several flight connections (most likely through Denver and Los Angeles). The airline will allow David/Grayson to fly to out of Houston as well, but they will also have to make multiple stops if they use this airline. It looks like you can either waste the time flying with Skywest or do the Southwest option and spend a few hours driving.
Another alternative is to drive to California. There is a lot to see on the way there and back.
